balmy February
oh February, how I’ve missed you. You and your biting wind. Your subzero temperatures. Your crappy grey skies. The way you treat every day as an opportunity to assault my already fragile skin.
With the exception of the two years I spent south of the Mason-Dixon line for “college” (read very expensive party), I have spent the rest of my life residing in some of the coldest places in the continental US. Many years in Vermont, a few in Maine, and now here in Wisconsin, or as football people know it, “The Frozen Tundra”. Maybe not ideal choices for a really fair girl with already very dry skin.
I have spent almost all those years trying to find something, anything to help (except those “college”years, which was not a hunt for better skin care, but rather a day spa made of Maker’s Mark and bong water).
During the crappiest of the winter days, a shower feels like an acid bath.
Not anymore!
Since last winter, I have been using Badger Balm as my almost year round skin salvation. It is to the lovely folks at Badger Balm that I owe my happy winter skin. I mean, I’m sure they’re lovely folks; they have no idea who I am…this is just an opportunity to share something that I love. And if it helps someone else….all the better. Badger balms are also certified organic and I think you can actually eat them….which is good if you’re snowed in.
I use lots of their stuff, but my 3 February favorites are Evolving Body Balm (which I also use as facial moisturizer)
Winter Wonder Balm- great under the nose before bed….nice aromatherapy, too
And the coffee flavored cocoa lip balm….perfect with my never-ending cup of coffee….because mint lip balm and coffee go together like toothpaste and orange juice.
Salve or salvation? Let your skin decide.

thanks for stopping by!
I have really fair skin, too, that’s been exposed to nothing but Northeastern winds my entire life. I’m always looking for new and better ways to keep my hands from shriveling up and cracking. Thanks for the review on Badger Balm – - I’m really trying to cut out nasty chemicals in the products I use. To that end, I’m actually developing a whole line of anti-aging skin care products that are free from harmful chemicals but every bit as effective as the big name brands with long, confusing ingredient lists. I hope to get some out to people like you to try them soon. Until then, thanks for keeping us all up to speed on better choices (particularly for those of us stuck in gross winter weather!)
M’lou,
I’d love to see some of your products when they’re ready. Thanks so much for stopping by!
